Dr. John's

Dr. John’s Products, Ltd.
1.    This is a decision case
2.    A. What will happen if you sale, what would happen if big company sides with you to help you grow.’
B.   In the past he sold off the company so I can see him doing it again
C.   The only thing to throw me off would be a big company helping out the Dr. John’s products
3.    Osher come up with an idea for a cheap electronic tooth brush based of the ideas and some designs of a spinning sucker, the idea is to create an electronic tooth brush that is not only cheap but works great and cleans without spending the 50 plus dollars that are normally spent on a toothbrush. The company is growing very fast but there are a few unknowns, like why the big companys have not come out with a product like this, will a big company buy them out, or offer them money like a sponser to help the big company and Dr. Johns grow as well.
  1. A. What do you think of Osher's process for identifying opportunities and building companies?
He is very good at identifying opportunities for start up business, and not only getting them going but making sure they are very successful, he learns quickly from past mistakes and has ideas that allow him to see what the customers want not just will make money.
B. Who is John Osher? How does he come up with ideas?
He was a young entrepreneur that flurshies with ideas and likes coming up with new ideas and businesses, most of his ideas were based on what was popular and things that were in demand but were in small or hard to find quantities.
D.   Is SpinBrush a good idea? How does John evaluate opportunities?
Yes it is a great idea, and John sees that there is an open market for electric toothbrushes because the only ones on the market are very expensive and Johns ideas are simply yet effective which allow him to make and produce a cheap yet effective electric toothbrush.
E.   Why haven’t larger companies already done a SpinBrush?
They have a market in expensive or tradition hand help brushes, they may have not come up with a cheap design yet or don’t feel that a cheap electronic toothbrush would be good for there company and brand.
F.    How much is SpinBrush worth? How would you place a value on a company?
It’s hard to say because it is growning so fast and has not been on the market for very long, I would place a value on the company based on a potential 5year market growth
G.   What should John do?
It depends because if he offered a partnership with a big company he should stay on, otherwise do what he always does and sell it and come up with the next big idea.
H.   How do you analyze a case?
Normally I read the hole thing once and start writing little notes of things that stand out to me then awnser the questions, followed by specific examaples from the reading to back up my thoughts.
H. Write what question you learned to ask as an entrepreneur.
What is goal of this case? What am I to learn from this case? What would I do if I was in there shoes?

My Hypothesis
I think John is going to sell his company.
In previous business he has done he has gotten tired or gotten a great offer and has sold the company he started. This is a start up company with some major players that John has no idea what they might do, wether they offer him money to by him out, come out with there own product, or if they will partner up with John, there are to many outcomes and I can see John like all the other times getting tired and wanting to move on.

I know this may not be the case because there is such a great opportunity for one of the big companies to want to help and work along side John and his company to help him and them become more successful, and it stands a great chance that one of the 4 big names that were named in the case will want to work with Johns company. The strongest alternative to John selling his company is him working with a big company helping them design or create a new version of the spinbrush.
